A recent study of 1,000 businesses revealed that a full 65% of professionals allow their employees to work remotely, away from the office. Instead of a typical office space, employees can work almost anywhere — most popularly from home. Many employees (and employers) recognized the substantial benefits of this option, and have shared their thoughts in an article in Forbes magazine, which also featured the findings of a survey illustrating the top ten benefits of working from home. Here are the most popular responses:
- More time with family
This benefit was exceptionally important to those who had young children at home. People are able to simply enjoy the company of their loved ones while still getting work done. - Less stressful environment
The hectic nature of a business can be a lot for some people to handle. Those who choose to work remotely can tailor their environment to their specific needs, thus alleviating stressors. - Much quieter than a traditional office space
It is impossible to control the volume of an office space if you share it with other people. Most people need silence to better focus. A great benefit to working remotely is the peace and quiet you’ll receive. - Sustain a healthy work/home balance
Some people get overworked and spend too much time in the office. Avoid burnout by balancing your time at home and in the office. - No need to commute
Commuting can be a lengthy and stressful experience, especially in colder weather. No need to trudge through the snow to get to the office: you can enjoy a virtual office from the comfort of your own home. - Skip out on traffic
If you drive to work, imagine the time you’ll save by avoiding rush hour traffic. That time can be spent working on important projects and assignments. - Save money on gas
In addition to the many benefits you can enjoy by not commuting, you’ll have a little extra money in your pocket that you would have normally wasted on gas. - Be more environmentally friendly
All of that commuting, whether by car, bus, or train, leads to harmful emissions from those vehicles. Do your part to help the environment by eliminating a commute and working from home. - Less distractions from others
If you’re the type of person who is distracted easily, being home alone can make for a more productive work environment. - Allows workers to be more productive
Of those surveyed, a full 67% agree that working from home is a productive option. Taking all of the aforementioned distractions into account, it is easy to see why someone might opt for a quiet and secluded space in which to complete their best work.
If these benefits sound especially attractive to you, consider employing a virtual office solution for your business. For increased productivity and happiness, give your employees the option to work remotely.
